About This Database

Guitar Model Database is an independent editorial archive built for guitar buyers, owners, collectors and musicians who want to research, identify and compare Gibson guitar models with precision.

Our goal is to be the best independent tool for understanding Gibson specifications — from body materials and neck profiles to pickups, weight and production history. Every model page is designed to be the single source of truth: a balance of clear, cold data and the context that makes that data meaningful.

What We Cover

The archive documents electric and acoustic Gibson models across families including Les Paul, SG, ES, Explorer, Flying V, Firebird and acoustics. Alongside the guitar database, we maintain reference archives for pickups and neck profiles — the components that most define how a guitar sounds and feels.

Our Methodology

Specifications are compiled from publicly available documentation and editorial research. We do not invent specifications, and where a value is sourced, approximate, or unverified, we note it rather than present it as fact. The database is built so that real, verified records can be imported and updated over time.

Specifications vary — verify before you buy

Gibson has changed materials, dimensions, pickups and construction across decades and production runs — sometimes within the same model and year. The figures on each model page describe the typical or documented specification for that variant, not a guarantee for every individual guitar. Two examples of the “same” model from different years or factories can differ in weight, neck carve, electronics and finish. Always confirm the exact specifications of an individual instrument with the seller or manufacturer before making a purchasing decision.

No fake expertise

This database does not publish fake author profiles, paid reviews, or “hands-on testing” claims. We are an editorial reference, not a review site, and we do not claim to have physically tested every instrument. Where a detail is uncertain, we say so.
